What you've purchased lately and maybe how many hours you've played on what games? that's pretty normal for an product like EGS. But again, they surely don't collect the data that is personal, but more of an what game genre's you like, or you don't. And neither do anyone else who uses the platform. Thats a fair point on data collection and whole the game community they've put on Steam, which is i highly respect Valve for this.īut 'if a product is free, then you are the product.' They're not just launchers for games for most of the gaming community, they're something they've actually worked really hard on for more than a decade. The user reviews which sometimes are trash, sometimes are the thing that actually make you buy a game only by seeing other's experience with it. It's about Steam that never claimed the monopoly on anything, they never paid any company to have their games on their platform exclusively, they actually just worked on their community with events and features that would only make it better for everyone. It's about the guides that people make, some of them are so well made you can see when someone has put their heart into it. What's more, there is a reason people want to get it on steam, it's not only about a store, where you can get a game and just click "play", it's about user profiles that people have been working hard on, it's about having discussions and sharing experiences and opinions on the forums of each games, as well as finding a solution together or with the developers when it comes to bugs and other problems. They are concerned about the security of their data after what already has been proven to be true in the past about Epic secretly collecting data. People who are complaining, and rightfully so, do that not because they have to make an account.
